Updates
What's new in OpenConvertVideo. This page logs features and improvements as they ship.
Mid-July 2026
- Hardware-accelerated conversion — common MP4/MKV/MOV/WebM ↔ H.264/VP9 conversions now use your browser's built-in WebCodecs encoder when available, often several times faster, with an automatic fallback so every conversion still works the same either way.
- Real-time progress bar during conversion, instead of jumping straight to done.
- Fixed the trim start/end fields overflowing the settings panel on narrow screens.
July 2026
- H.265 (HEVC) encoding — same quality as H.264 at roughly half the file size.
- VP9 / WebM output — open-format video optimised for the web.
- FLAC, OGG (Vorbis), and M4A audio output formats.
- Sequential conversions — convert multiple files in a row without reloading the page.
- HDR to SDR tonal mapping — converts HDR footage to standard dynamic range automatically.
- Additional output containers: MKV and MOV alongside MP4 and WebM.
Early July 2026
- Site redesign — cleaner layout, improved typography, better mobile experience.
- In-converter help guide explaining each setting.
- File thumbnails in the job list.
- New format guides: MKV to MP4, AVI to MP4, Video to MP3.
