AVCHD is the recording format behind most consumer HD camcorders. On the memory card itself, clips are usually named .MTS, sitting inside a folder path like PRIVATE/AVCHD/BDMV/STREAM. Copy that footage off through the camera's software, or onto a Blu-ray disc, and the same H.264-in-transport-stream video often gets renamed .m2ts. They're the same format wearing two different extensions.

Why won't my camcorder footage play on my phone or laptop?
